Blew Out A Flip Flop

@#$% another pair of walking shows relegated to the circular file.  Its weird to throw away something that looks great on the topside.  But once you turn them over and look at the soles you understand whats going as they look like a set of 50,000 mile radial tires going on 80,000 miles... no tread and a couple of holes to boot!

Now being the cheap skate that I am, I resist buying new shows until the last possible moment and even then it takes a fair degree of extra motivation, usually in some form of physical discomfort to get me to do it.  Such was the case this time around as I had developed a serious case of shin splints, making it miserable to go more than a few miles at a time.  Not good for maintaining my daily pace.

I know by now, that shin pain is the first indication that my shoes have reached the end of their usable life.  Looking at the soles, I can see that there is a lot more wear on the outside edges than the inside edges.  Obviously, when I walk I am putting more pressure in those areas of the my shoes.  As they wear down, my feet become angled to the ground instead of parallel to it, which puts extra stress on the tendons, muscles, etc that run up through my shins, which in turn causes the pain.

So, a new pair of shoes is the key, as much as I hate to admit it. Keep this in mind if you are having a lot of foot or leg pain.  There is a good chance its the shoes.  This is one of the easiest excuses NOT to exercise, but in most cases there is a simple remedy.  If you want to be successful losing weight, you have to find solutions to challenges, not excuses to avoid them.
